Tony Bruno Says Trying To Prove He’s Not Racist Is ‘Futile Venture’

It sounds like Tony Bruno has come to the conclusion that his career in the sports media is over. In a post on the Tony Bruno Show Facebook page, Bruno acknowledged that his radio show has been cancelled by both SiriusXM and Sports Map Radio.

“All I can do now is walk away from this amazing ride of a career, thank all who know me as a person, and appreciate all of those who have listened, watched and helped me along the way,” he writes.

Bruno writes that anyone that knows him and his work for the last 40 years knows who he really is, but after the Deadspin column highlighting his comments about LeBron James and the NBA, the common thinking is that he is a racist. “Being labelled a racist is the worst thing possible and there is nothing I can say or do to appease the jubilant mob,” he laments.

In a segment making fun of LeBron James’s habit of being photographed reading only the first page of books, Bruno joked that many NBA players can’t read. He has been off the air for close to 2 weeks now.

Bruno closes his post by noting that he hopes the people he has known and that have known him in this industry do not let his last broadcast and the reaction to it define him.

“It’s up to you to judge me in your own minds, but being labelled a racist and trying to prove you’re not is a futile venture. I will always speak my mind and truth to power.”

  1. Tony Bruno has gone “Don Imus” on us although he (Imus) survived the Rutgers Woman’s Basketball statement but Tony Bruno might not survive this for a long time if at ALL. It’s too bad his own rant took him down he was entertaining and good for radio but nothing lasts forever
