Joe Buck Going Into Pro Football Hall of Fame

It was great to see Joe Buck trending on Twitter for something positive Thursday night, after it was announced the iconic sportscaster would be joining his father in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Somehow ripping Buck became the cool thing to do on social media over the last 10 years, as many fans ignore the fact that he’s without question one of the best to ever call a baseball or football game. But maybe having multiple fan bases around the country believing Buck has a bias specifically against their team, is proof that he’s actually an unbiased broadcaster.

The halftime show for this week’s Thursday Night Football broadcast depicted a culmination of what continues to be a renowned career for Buck, as he received the surprise announcement that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. David Baker, president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame delivered the message that Buck was the recipient of the Pete Rozelle Award. Following Baker’s announcement, a video narrated by actor Paul Rudd, a close friend of Buck’s, was played to celebrate the honor, but even better than that was watching Buck’s reaction to the unexpected news.

Despite the frequent social media ribbing, few people are better than Buck at knowing when to let the game breath and allowing its emotion to shine in big moments. In 1994, at the age of 25, Buck became the youngest person to broadcast a schedule of NFL games. He was later named part of the FOX NFL lead broadcast team with Troy Aikman in 2002, which they continue to fill today.

Entering the Hall of Fame further validates Buck as one of the best play-by-play announcers in sports history. His father Jack Buck earned the Pete Rozelle Award in 1996, making them the first father-son duo to win it. Jack Buck is also in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, after winning the Ford C. Frick Award in 1987. Similarly, Joe Buck has been a finalist for the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award, and although he hasn’t been elected to Cooperstown yet, it’s hard to imagine it won’t happen soon.

  1. Out of all of the excellent content that BSM and Jason Barrett put out for five strong years, this is probably one of the worst articles as sadly even the astute BSM staff is forced to kiss up to one of the most overrated and undeserving sports broadcaster of all time: Joe Buck. His supreme lack of popularity and supreme lack of talent and skill are showcased by the fact that his HBO show is cancelled without even a full season and only after a few episodes due to epic rating failure, which further proves the fact that when push comes to shove and when Joe Buck does not have big network’s marketing muscle to shill for him and when he needs to bear the rating burden himself, Joe Buck fails. Not a surprise because this guy doesn’t even like sports.

    • Rocky, you are entitled to your opinion on Joe. We report news and whether you like Joe or not, the facts are the facts, he’s going into the pro football hall of fame. Pretty simple reason why the story is on our site.
