Jack Harris Celebrates 50 Years In Tampa Bay Market

Fifty years, a full half-century, is a long run for any career but a near miracle in broadcasting. Jack Harris has been on the air in Tampa since 1970 and with the same station since 1975. Harris has hosted AM Tampa Bay on iHeartMedia’s WFLA-AM, for the last  27 of those years.

“Fifty years doesn’t sound so strange,” Harris told the Tampa Bay Times . “But when you say five decades, it is weird. That’s a long time. But I have a lot of good memories.”

The 79-year-old Harris got his start in his native West Virginia while still in high school. Over the years Harris has done television and commercial work. He even spent some years as the recorded voice of the Tampa International Airport.

“I’ve always just tried to have fun,” Harris said. “I’m not ready to give this up. I’m still loving it.”
