Atlanta sports radio veteran and Barrett Sports Media columnist John Michaels is the new anchor of the morning show at 680 the Fan in Atlanta. He confirmed the news on Twitter on Thursday morning.
In his tweet Michaels says “I have some big shoes to fill”. That is a reference to Steak Shapiro, a legendary sports radio presence in the market and one of three Dickey staffers cut last week.
The last full time job Michaels held in the market was at cross-town rival 92.9 the Game. He co-hosted that station’s mid day show alongside Rick Kamla. The duo was let go in March of 2019.
With 680 the Fan, Michaels joins former Falcon Brian Finneran and longtime radio host and TV sideline reporter Sandra Golden on The Front Row in morning drive.
The new job is just another bill in Michaels’s sports media wallet. He will continue contributing to Sports Map Radio and SB Nation’s State of the U blog, where he serves as a staff writer. John is also the co-founder of Tackler Media.
