Typically, the flyover at a major sporting event gets a big roar from a packed crowd. But with limited or no fans in the building because of COVID-19, FOX broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman accidentally let viewers know they thought the flyover was overkill.
Defector shared audio of Buck and Aikman criticizing the flyover, which wasn’t aired by FOX, but was recorded by a hot mic.
“That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman said.
“That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work!” Buck replied with sarcasm.
“That stuff ain’t happening with Kamala-Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that right now, partner,” said Aikman.
I’m not sure if Aikman’s claim of “this stuff ain’t happening with Kamala-Biden ticket” is in support of or against Biden for president. But flyovers are very unlikely to halt regardless of who wins the presidential election in two weeks.
In April and May, the height of COVID-19 in the Northeast, there were multiple flyovers as a way of saluting healthcare workers. The flyovers were met with some pushback by the public who like Buck and Aikman, wondered if it was a financially responsible decision. But pilots and aircrews are required by the U.S. Air Force to fly each month as part of mandatory training, whether stadiums are full or not.
The odd part about the audio from Buck and Aikman is that they were projecting as if the broadcast was live, which makes me wonder if all their assumed off-air conversations sound alike.
