Stan Van Gundy Leaving TNT To Coach Pelicans

Both Van Gundy brothers have won praise for their work as NBA game analysts since leaving the bench to enter the world of broadcasting. Still, both have a history of success as coaches, so the question about when one or both would take the reigns of a new team has lingered.

Older brother Stan has answered that question. The TNT game analyst is leaving the media behind to return to an NBA bench. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that Van Gundy will be named the new coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 61-year-old has spent eleven seasons as a head coach in the NBA. In that time he has lead the Miami Heat, the Orlando Magic, and the Detroit Pistons. His teams have made the playoffs eight out of his eleven seasons.

Van Gundy signed a multi-year deal with TNT at the start of this past basketball season. During the season, he called Tuesday night games, rotating between Ian Eagle and Brian Anderson as his play-by-play partners.
