Use this as a reminder to periodically do a temperature check of the person operating your brand’s social media feeds, because the Twitter account associated with the Husker Sports Network sent out a moronic promotional tweet Wednesday evening.
Saturday’s football game between Wisconsin and Nebraska was canceled Wednesday morning after the Badgers had 12 people recently test positive for COVID-19 from six athletes and six staff members, including head coach Paul Chryst and quarterback Graham Mertz.
The Husker Sports Twitter account used Wisconsin’s positive tests as an opportunity to send out a since-deleted promotional tweet.
“If the roles were reversed and the #Huskers had 6 players and 6 staff members sitting out with positive tests, would the game be played Saturday?” Asked @HuskerSports. “Retweet and answer for a chance at a Free @Runza Combo Meal!”
Keep in mind The Big Ten came infamously close to bypassing the football season altogether. The idea that any team school would play a game days after a COVID-outbreak is ignorant and much of Twitter made sure to inform Nebraska of that.
The Husker Sports Twitter account deleted the tweet after being lambasted by media members for three hours. Also, Runzas are apparently a Nebraska staple. Not a sandwich and not a calzone, but a bread pocket filled with meat and other things, and I won’t knock it since they weren’t the handle that posted the Twitter poll.
