A Seattle radio host who was suspended following a transphobic tweet during a Gubernatorial debate returned to the airwaves Tuesday. Dori Monson, who hosts the afternoon show at KIRO Radio 97.3, which is part of Bonneville Seattle, asked for forgiveness from his listeners.
“They said I was making fun of transgender people, which honest to goodness didn’t even cross my mind then,” Monson said. “I couldn’t care less if an adult wants to adopt a different gender.” Monson, who hosts Seattle Seahawks pregame and postgame shows, remains suspended from the team’s broadcasts.
Not everyone was happy to see Monson back. Seattle Pride executive director Krystal Marx called Monson’s apology “generic” and said that he spent little time addressing the transgender community.
“Since October 9, advertisers on this show and our station have felt the pain. I accept responsibility for this,” Monson stated. “Not only do I value and respect the relationships that I have with our advertisers, but I cherish them.”
Monson’s apology was posted to the station’s website minutes after airing on his show.
