Sandra Golden Leaving 680 The Fan Next Month

One third of The Front Row is leaving the building. On this morning’s edition of the show, Sandra Golden announced that she will leave 680 the Fan on February 19.

“I am proud to announce that I am hanging up the good old microphone here on the front row as of February 19,” she said at the end of the show’s “Belly Up” segment.

Golden noted that when lineup changes started happening at the station in September, she began thinking about how much longer she wanted to stay in radio. Those changes saw the end of 680’s sister station “The Sports X”. They also included the exits of Atlanta radio stalwarts Steak Shapiro and John Kincade.

“I’m not even gonna know what to look for in that seat without you there,” her partner Brian Finneran said.

John Michaels, who was added to the show in September upon Shapiro’s exit, said that he too was sad to see Golden go, but noted how rare it is in sports radio for someone to leave a show in a major market on their own terms.

Shapiro weighed in on Twitter, calling his former partner “the greatest female sports talk host in history”.

“I’ve had a ten year run at the station,” Golden said. “I’ve been here in Atlanta doing media since 1997 and I feel like it is the greatest blessing of all time.”

Golden’s journalism career has been full of accolades. She has won 3 Emmys and 4 AP Awards. In addition to her time with 680 the Fan, Golden also was a reporter on Atlanta Braves broadcasts and hosted both ACC Live and Southern Sports Report.
