TV station owner TEGNA is expanding its podcast reach. The company announced on Wednesday that it had acquired Locked On.
With more than 160 daily podcasts in production, Locked On adds a solid local podcasting identity to TEGNA. The network has shows for every team across the MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL as well as 30 college teams.
“Local communities are at the heart of what we do, and nothing brings communities together like local sports. That’s why we’re very pleased to welcome Locked On to TEGNA,” said Dave Lougee, president and CEO of TEGNA, said in a press release. “We look forward to growing the Locked On network through collaboration with our local stations, including the potential for video simulcasts of shows, and further increasing distribution, engagement and monetization of these fan favorite podcasts.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Locked On will continue to operate as an independent company. Founder David Locke, Carl Weinstein, the company’s chief operating officer, and Locked On’s staff become TEGNA employees as part of the deal.
Locked On is the second podcast studio in TEGNA’s portfolio. The company launched VAULT studios in 2019.
