Richard in Manhattan and Harvey from Dix Hills might not be locked in to WFAN’s afternoon show Fridays at 5pm. But that’s kind of the point.
According to Kirsten Fleming of The New York Post Craig Carton and Evan Roberts are adding a new weekly segment with TikTok star Josh Richards every Friday. The partnership begins next Friday at 5pm, airing as a 20-minute segment and a unique way to wrap up the week.
If I lauded the NFL for partnering with Nickelodeon, then I should similarly credit WFAN for connecting with a TikTok star to develop new fans. In an industry that has an aging audience, WFAN is creatively trying to attract younger listeners. To further the relationship, Carton and Roberts are creating their own TikTok accounts.
“I’ve known Josh for a while now. I have a daughter who is a sophomore in college and a son who is a freshman, and I am a very immature adult,” Carton told The Post. “So between my kids and myself, I would be foolish to not be aware of what’s going on. There’s no such thing as traditional media anymore, so guys like Josh who created a name for himself is a natural extension of what we do.”
This isn’t the first sports media collaboration for Richards, who co-hosts Barstool’s BFFs podcast with Dave Portnoy. Richards turns 19 on Monday and touts 24 million followers on TikTok. The Toronto native lives in “The Sway House” which is a Bel Air mansion housing a group of TikTok’s biggest stars and influencers.
