Despite having various social media accounts permanently banned due to the insurrection last month, former President Donald Trump still has his YouTube account.
However, several civil rights group is trying to change that situation. According to Reuters, civil rights groups across the United States will boycott YouTube if the social media platform does not remove Trump’s channel.
Jim Steyer, an organizer for the Stop the Hate for Profit group, confirmed to the news outlet that they’re demanding YouTube suspend Trump’s verified channel, an account with close to 2.76 million subscribers, and has posted eight new videos as recently.
“If YouTube does not agree with us and join the other platforms in banning Trump, we’re going to go to the advertisers,” Steyer said.
Groups such as the Anti-Defamation League, Color of Change, and NAACP have called on advertisers to pull their ads from Facebook over hate speech. Furthermore, the NAACP has voiced its support for removing Trump’s channel from YouTube as well. “We join in with our coalition partners and ask that YouTube act decisively to help stop the spread of hate by shutting Trump’s account down,” the NAACP said.
