It’s a pairing that never could have been considered with The Dan Le Batard Show on ESPN, but after singing “Freedom” on their way out, Stugotz is at liberty to discuss co-hosting a fill-in show with Gregg Giannotti on WFAN.
About one month ago, Boomer Esiason was scheduled to be off-air for a couple of days and Giannotti said they were working on a surprise guest co-host for the morning show, but was unable to make it work. Not mentioning who the guest host was, Gio ultimately took the same days off as Boomer, leaving the morning show in Jerry Recco and Sal Licata’s hands.
Last week, Gio joined STUpodity and they both acknowledged Stugotz was the fill-in host that never materialized. Although it didn’t work out, Gio and Stugotz agreed they’ll co-host a show on The Fan during a Boomer vacation in the future. And if you thought WFAN’s morning show is too light on sports now, wait until Stugotz enters the studio.
Like Gio, Stugotz grew up listening to WFAN. And during a conversation last summer, Stugotz told me, “I don’t know if I’ll ever scratch the itch,” but acknowledged part of him is interested in branching off from being Le Batard’s sidekick.
Stugotz just embarked on a new venture with Le Batard to launch Meadowlark Media, but at 48-years-old, he still has plenty of time for another chapter in his career. Moving back to New York might not excite the South Florida resident, but maybe testing WFAN’s airwaves will push him to scratch the itch.
