Parler Returns to the Apple App Store

Social media app Parler is back in the iPhone app store, the company announced. The app is a favorite amongst conservatives.

Major tech platforms cut ties with Parler following the attack at the Capitol that left five people dead. They accused the app, which is backed by prominent Republican Party donor Rebekah Mercer, of failing to police violent content on its service.

Parler has updated its app and improved its content moderation, an Apple official wrote in the letter. As of April 14, Apple’s App Review department had approved the changes and an updated version of Parler will be approved by Apple, the letter said.

Parler went dark for about a month after Amazon Web Services suspended web-hosting services, saying the app had failed to effectively moderate violent content. Apple and Alphabet Inc.’s Google removed it from their app stores.

Parler also sued Amazon, accusing it of trying to destroy its business.
