Pat McAfee Draft Webcast Scores Big Audience, Seatgeek Deal

The Super Bowl is arguably one of the most-watched events on the football calendar, but the aurora that the NFL Draft has, considering it brings fans of all 32 teams and fills them with optimism. As a result, they’re looking for content.

Mainstream media outlets such as the NFL Network and ESPN provided draft coverage; however, for those who wanted something different, “The Pat McAfee Show” provided a “Draft Spectacular” covering the first round last night.

With the NFL draft ongoing, the show had more than 130,000 concurrent viewers for their coverage, per Huddle Up’s Joe Pompliano. As the Pat McAfee Show put out these high viewer numbers, Seatgeek decided to broker an ad deal on the spot to take advantage.

The mobile-focused ticket platform called up those in charge, and it took 30 minutes to strike a deal. This agreement between the two sides resulted in Seatgeek trending on Twitter by the end of the night.

Content consumption is changing, with many switching from legacy media to streaming. Whether on YouTube or Twitch, these programs that use these platforms to garner a following have grown and can broker these deals on the spot, which outlets such as ESPN and the NFL Network can’t.
