CNN’s Chris Cuomo’s controversy in advising his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on responding to sexual harassment allegations continues to hang over the network.
Cuomo’s colleague, Jake Tapper, criticized the host’s decision to aid his brother. It now puts CNN in a difficult spot as critics suggest whether the network can impartially cover the governor’s crisis.
In an interview with the New York Times, Tapper stated that Cuomo’s actions put CNN’s employees in “a bad spot.”
“I cannot imagine a world in which anybody in journalism thinks that that was appropriate,” Tapper said. “Chris, in his apology that he delivered on-air, said that he put us in a bad spot. I would also agree with that.”
Tapper stated that he puts in a lot of work to be fair and ethical in an attempt not to cross any lines. “I certainly understand the love that Chris has for his brother, but that was not a fun day,” Tapper said.
Last week, Cuomo spoke about the issue regarding him advising his brother on “Cuomo Prime Time” and apologized for his behavior.
