For more than three decades, 95.5 FM WSB’s Kirk Mellish has delivered the weather forecast with integrity and honesty. On Thursday, the longtime meteorologist announced that he was retiring at the end of July.
The Hall-of-Fame broadcaster joined the station in July of 1987. As a certified member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association, he informed millions of people over the course of 34 years.
“I never would have thought I’d stay this long,” Mellish told morning show host Scott Slade. “It has been a blessing to turn my childhood hobby into a career and to serve most of these decades as the first radio-only, full-time meteorologist in the country.”
Starting in late July, Meteorologist Christina Edwards will join the WSB Radio team, returning to Atlanta after six years of serving the Tennessee Valley at WHNT News 19, according to the station’s website.
” I am thrilled to be joining the legendary 95.5 WSB Radio!” Edwards said. “I grew up in metro Atlanta, listening to Kirk Mellish’s weather reports during my family’s daily commute, and I continue to listen even today.”
