On Barstool Sports, you can hear MLB writer Jared Carrabis give his take on the sport on the Starting 9 podcast with Dallas Braden and the Section 10 podcast talking Boston Red Sox among other things. Now, you can add one more podcast job to Carrabis’s resume and it involves one of the greatest players in Red Sox history.
On Monday, Carrabis announced that he will be hosting a new podcast with David Ortiz that begins on August 4 called Call Him Papi. Last week, he teased the announcement on social media as the biggest announcement he has ever made.
Even Ortiz had some fun with the announcement:
In a post released on Barstool by Carrabis on Monday, Carrabis talked about how the founder of Barstool, Dave Portnoy thought it would actually be going backwards for him to a podcast with Ortiz, but it turned out Ortiz wanted to do a podcast:
“Around that time is when Michael, the guy who worked with David Ortiz, reached out and told me that Papi was looking to get into the podcast game. Again, I’m skeptical about everything. Never in a million years did I think this would come to fruition, but I offered to put David’s team in touch with Erika and hoped for the best.”
Carrabis recorded the first episode of the podcast in David Ortiz’s home in Miami and he realizes how important Ortiz has been to his career in the media industry.
“I honestly didn’t even have time to get nervous or have my brain explode with anxiety or excitement because HELLO, you now co-host a podcast with the most legendary player in the history of your favorite sports team’s franchise. The player who, without him, you would have zero existence, zero career, zero happiness. Straight up. Nada.”
Even though you think this would just be another baseball podcast, Carrabis assured his audience that will not be the case and listed some notable guests that fans could look forward to listening to on future episodes.
“Episode one is me interviewing Papi, yes. But we’ve got A-Rod, we’ve got Gronk, we’ve got Fernando Tatis Jr., and I don’t want to say too much because some of these are agreed upon, but haven’t been recorded yet.”
With Ortiz never being afraid to say how he feels and being entertaining as part of the MLB on FOX pregame and postgame shows during the All-Star Game and the postseason, this could make for a very entertaining podcast that all people and yes, maybe even Yankee fans might enjoy.
