Doug Christie has stayed around the Kings even after retiring from his NBA career. He is the co-host of the afternoon drive show on the team’s flagship radio station KHTK in Sacramento. He has also been an analyst on the team’s TV broadcast.
He will stay close to the team, but his broadcasting days are over. Christie announced on Monday that he will become an assistant coach on the Sacramento Kings’ staff next season. He told the team’s website that the new role is a dream come true.
“I feel like I have some unfinished business,” Christie said in a statement. “I’d like to thank my family at NBC Sports California as well as KHTK for an amazing ride. I look forward to working with Coach Walton to deliver a winning team to the great fans of Sacramento.”
While this will be the first time he is on an NBA sideline, Doug Christie does have some coaching experience. He has been working with both amateur and professional athletes as a private coach to improve basketball fundamentals since retiring in 2007.
Christie’s big announcement means more changes for KHTK in afternoon drive. Jason Ross moved into the host’s chair just last year after Grant Napear was fired. The station and parent company Bonneville have not commented on any plans for the future.
