John Gibson: Gabby Petito Case Has Drama the Media Can Exploit

Political commentator John Gibson is reacting to the narrative being spun from left-leaning news outlets that the obsession with the Gabby Petito case centers on “missing white girl syndrome.”

Mainstream media outlets like CNN and MSNBC have criticized overall coverage of the case citing missing women of color who have not received the same attention.

Gibson discussed the issue with Steve Malzberg on his weekly show called Eat the Press on RT America on Sunday.

“A lot of these stories that involve missing women of color or murdered women of color are pretty straightforward: they’re gone, there’s no suspect, there’s no video, there’s no drama attached to it that the media could exploit as we did during the O.J. trial,” he said.

Gibson covered the OJ Simpson trial back in the early 1990s and said there are some similarities between these two cases.

“There are elements about this story that are similar [to the O.J. Simpson trial]: there’s drama, there’s [a] guy on the run, [and] the woman obviously abused by him,” he said.

Gibson said Petito’s case has triggered a lot of attention based on how the pair portrayed themselves on social media.
