“Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos announced the development of a production company within ABC News.
“There are so many important stories out there to be told… I’m excited about expanding into this arena with our stellar team at ABC News,” Stephanopoulos said.
The company is called George Stephanopoulos Productions. According to the announcement, it will be producing nonfiction programs and movies across ABC owner Disney’s portfolio. These platforms will include including ABC, streaming services Hulu, Disney+, and cable networks National Geographic and FX.
“George’s straightforward reporting and tough-but-fair interviews have been a staple of ABC News over the past two decades. I can’t wait to watch as he brings those talents to this new space, sharing this informative and riveting content with our viewers,” ABC News President Kim Godwin said.
“George is one of the sharpest minds and most trusted voices in news, and I am thrilled to work with him to explore today’s most urgent, crucial, and impactful stories as he broadens into the long-form space,” GSP Executive Producer Jennifer Joseph said.
“Out of the Shadows” profiles Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent, author of the explosive “Steele dossier” about Donald Trump and Russia, written in 2016 and debuts on Hulu on Oct. 18. Meanwhile, “The Informant,” which documents the Oklahoma City bombing, premieres on Hulu on Nov. 1.
Stephanopoulos isn’t the only one on the “GMA” set to have a production company. Co-anchor Robin Roberts has had her own at the network since 2014. Called Rock’n Robin Productions, the company has provided content for ABC, ESPN, Disney+, and Lifetime, among other outlets.
