Judy Rankin is a legend in the golf world. She transitioned to broadcasting after her playing career ended and has been working consistently for the last 40 years. On Thursday night, she revealed that 2022 is likely to be her last year in the booth.
“I’m not going to do a Brett Favre and retire about four times,” the 77-year-old said at the Rolex Awards Dinner. “I am seriously slowing down. I don’t know how much their will be after this, at some point I will see you next year.”
LPGA Tour Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan presented the Commissioner’s Award to Judy Rankin at the event. During her presenting remarks, she noted that Rankin’s signature in the broadcast booth has been humanizing the competitors and the moment for people watching at home.
“I love the way she’s watching from a human perspective,” Marcoux Samaan said. “Every time someone’s got a really tough putt, she’s worried for them. She’s analyzing their stroke and being extremely critical and analytical, but at the same time as a person, she’s wanting them to succeed, which is something that’s really important to me in life.”
As of right now, Judy Rankin is scheduled to work four tournaments for Golf Channel next year. Her remarks on Thursday night certainly sounded like someone that knows those will be the last times she is part of LPGA Tour events in a professional capacity.
“I have really had a great time, I really have,” Rankin said. “It’s been something. Thank you.”
