Chicago’s WIND Overhauls Its News & Traffic Operations

A new year means changes for some news radio stations. Chicago’s WIND is one of them. The station is making big changes to its news and traffic operations.

All Access reports that Mike Scott, who has anchored newscasts on the station weekdays between 5 am and 12 pm, will transition into a full-time position as News Director.

“I’m incredibly gratified to be able to continue in my role on the air with AM 560 and Salem Media,” Scott said.

“We have some of the best listeners in all of Chicago radio and some of the best on-air talent. I look forward to providing the first look at the day’s news for our audience.”

Despite the new position, Scott will continue anchoring newscasts and start heading traffic reporting responsibilities. The Chicago station will also add a familiar voice to listeners with Joann Genette joining WIND as the station’s afternoon news anchor.

“I’m very excited to have this new role. It’s a great fit for me. I’ve always understood the most important element of news is recognizing real people’s lives are attached to these stories,” Genette said.

Finally, veteran traffic reporter Jill Urchak is taking over the afternoon traffic reports for WIND.

“A big thanks to the management of AM 560 for making me part of their fantastic radio station,” Urchak said. “I look forward to the journey and the opportunities that come with it. I’m super excited!”
