Dave Portnoy: ‘F**k Tom Brady’ For Not Mentioning Patriots

When Tom Brady was a New England Patriot, he did not have a bigger fan and defender than Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. After Tuesday’s announcement that Brady was retiring though, it seems like Portnoy has changed his tune.

Dave Portnoy posted one of his emergency press conferences on Twitter. In it, he expressed real contempt for Tom Brady and the fact that the GOAT did not mention New England in his goodbyes.

“I just read five swipe rights. Tampa this. Tampa that,” Portnoy said.

Brady’s farewell message did not include a mention of the Patriots. It didn’t make sense to Portnoy. After all, Tom Brady spent literally one tenth of the time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he did with the New England Patriots.

“What? Did he play 100 years in Tampa Bay? He was there for three seconds,” Portnoy said. “I didn’t see the Patriots once. I don’t want to make this about crying, but you’re not gonna mention Mr. Kraft? Belichick? Six Super Bowls? You’re not gonna mention your entire f**king career basically in New England and you don’t say one thing? What the f**k?”

Dave Portnoy does hold out some hope for the future. The initial retirement statement from Brady was nearly 3000 words long, but the Barstool president can’t believe that is all Tom Brady has to say.

“There must be part 2 coming because that was not real. And f**k him if that’s how he’s gonna retire with that.”

Tom Brady did issue a lengthy farewell to Patriots fans after the 2019 season when it was clear he would not be returning to New England.

While he did not issue a second long statement on the Patriots, Brady did respond to a tweet from the team congratulating him.

For the record, Portnoy was a guest on Jesse Waters’s FOX News show on Tuesday night and admitted that his initial reaction was too hasty. He declared that he would give Tom Brady until his Hall of Fame induction speech to properly acknowledge the role New England plays in his legacy. That gives the GOAT five years.
