MSNBC is adding a new member to its list of analysts as Matthew Dowd joins the network as a contributor and political analyst. In his role, Dowd will appear across MSNBC, weighing in on the political news driving headlines across the country and in Washington.

“A little news announced today. I have joined MSNBC in a fun and meaningful hybrid role, trying to shine a light on our democracy and the dangers to it,” Dowd tweeted

For his hybrid role with MSNBC, Dowd will be reporting with reoccurring in-the-field features presently under development. Furthermore, he plans to analyze the dangers facing U.S. democracy with prepared on-the-ground segments across the nation in the leadup to the significant 2022 midterms.

Dowd worked as a chief strategist for the Bush-Cheney ’04 presidential campaign before joining ABC News in Dec. 2007 as a political contributor in his previous positions leading to his appointment at MSNBC.

While at ABC, Dowd received promotions moving to the network’s special correspondent role in Feb. 2013 and was later named ABC News’s chief political analyst. He would depart in January 2021, spending 13 years with the company.
