Dan Le Batard: ‘People Don’t Understand Our DraftKings Deal’

DraftKings is giving Dan Le Batard and Meadowlark Media the money necessary to change the way sports radio is done. That is according to Dan Le Batard, who joined Jonathan Zaslow on WQAM in Miami yesterday.

After a fifteen minute conversation condemning the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross, which included Le Batard saying “This place swallowed Saban. It swallowed Parcells. It swallows greatness,” he laid out his crew’s plans for the Super Bowl.

“Super Bowl week, we had giant plans! We were so excited about going to the Super Bowl, making a mess of it, making fun of it. We were going to get a mansion and a houseboat and all sorts of things to be fools and kick off the new year.”

So maybe the Super Bowl plans aren’t coming to fruition, but that doesn’t mean that Dan Le Batard, Meadowlark Media, and DraftKings aren’t working to create special content in the future. Le Batard told Zaslow that he doesn’t think the average listener really gets that nearly anything is possible for them now.

“People don’t understand, Zas, what our deal with DraftKings is. It’s a monster deal that we hope changes the way some of this is. They’re gonna give us rocket fuel over the next year to do some big and interesting things as the partnership evolves.”

Dan Le Batard said that he knows Miami’s Cuban community can appreciate why it mattered so much that he was able to work with whoever he wanted on whatever he wanted. He described Meadowlark Media as “free agency” and noted that the audience will soon just be starting to see what is possible for the company in the video space.

“When we left ESPN, we built the airplane in the sky over the last year,” Le Batard said.
