Jeff Cavanaugh Leaving 105.3 The Fan and ‘GBag Nation’

Jeff Cavanaugh has been a big part of Dallas’s 105.3 The Fan, joining the station in 2010 and quickly becoming a part of the GBag Nation show that began on middays and eventually moved to afternoons.

But that time is coming to an end. Cavanaugh announced on social media Wednesday that he’s leaving 105.3 The Fan. His final day on the air will be Friday, Feb. 25.

“Why am I leaving? I’m following my energy,” said Cavanaugh. “I just don’t have the same love of doing the show every day that I once did and I want to find that again. The thing that energizes me now is trying to build something by myself. So I’m going to try it. I want to be happy, and I’ve been struggling with that at work lately.”

GBag Nation will continue with current hosts Gavin Dawson, Lucious Alexander, and Bryan Broaddus.

Cavanaugh announced that he will host a nightly, one-hour show on his YouTube channel, Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. CT. Additionally, he’ll continue his Trust the Tape NFL Draft podcast that he co-hosts with Broaddus.

NFL Draft and Dallas Cowboys content are what Cavanaugh is known for and he’ll presumably be able to focus on those topics with his own show. But at the risk of speculating, people just need to make a change sometimes. 11 years is a long time at any job. Working for yourself can feel more creatively fulfilling too. Judging from what he said on social media, it appears that’s where Cavanaugh is after an impressive run at 105.3 The Fan.

Longtime listeners and fans will have just over a week to express their appreciation and say their goodbyes to Cavanaugh before he leaves. But they also now know where they’ll be able to find him next.
