The Fox News coverage on the Russia-Ukraine conflict is in the spotlight, mainly host Tucker Carlson for being a Vladimir Putin apologist and not criticizing the Russian president.
A former correspondent for RT network, Liz Wahl, appeared on NewsNation, where she clashed with anchor Dan Abrams over her claim that Carlson’s pro-Putin rhetoric is “indistinguishable” from Russian state media.
Wahl spent most of her interview examining Russia’s use of RT broadcasts to push state propaganda to Americans regarding its invasion of Ukraine.
Furthermore, she observed that RT’s American department has recently recruited several supporters of former President Donald Trump to fill out its positions, stating that “the narratives have essentially become indistinguishable” from pro-Trump media.
However, Abrams pushed back, stating when he watched Carlson’s show isn’t different from what someone sees on another network.
“I’ve been very critical of the fringe coverage; we talk about it a lot on this show. But I’m telling you, what I watched today is distinguishable from what you’re seeing on any network,” Abrams said.
“I’m not going to become an apologist for Tucker Carlson or Mike Flynn; I’ve been very critical of both of them. But I’m telling you that what I saw today [on RT] is not what Tucker Carlson says!”
Wahl fired back at Abrams.
“I’m telling you that what I saw in the Russian studio is the same propaganda being amplified by Tucker Carlson,” Wahl said.
“I’m just telling you that what was on RT today was nothing like what’s on Fox News. Period!” Abrams clamored. “That’s not a defense of Tucker Carlson; that’s a defense of what I saw.”
