Jon Stewart: I Don’t Have the “Temperament” to Run for Office

Comedian and former late-night host Jon Stewart could be weighing on a possible run for office. During an appearance on Kara Swisher’s podcast “Sway,” the New York Times journalist asked him if he has any political aspirations.

“Oh, god. How do you not?” Stewart said. “When you see the s–theads that are …”

He added by saying how anyone could watch the current group of politicians in the United States without contemplating running for public office themselves.

“How do you not when you watch all that, and you’re like, oh my god, what is — this is terrible,” he said. “It’s like when you get in a car and the one driver’s drunk, and you’re like, do you everything about taking the wheel? You’re like, yeah, I did.”

Furthermore, Stewart went on to explain why he wouldn’t have the “temperament” for the position. However, Swisher notes that politicians usually get elected regardless of their conduct, citing Marjorie Taylor Greene and former President Donald Trump as examples.

Stewart noted his “patience” on why he deals with specific lawmakers, adding, “It’s having the patience that, how come that person gets to still be here? Make that person leave.”

“I also think there’s a lot that goes around that that has nothing to do with passion or care about issues or wanting to help people, that has to do with fundraising and the way the game is played and the lack of perspective on it,” Stewart continued.

“And sometimes I feel like, well, I can be more effective on the outside than on the inside.”
