Two Fox News journalists were honored this week at the Radio & Television Correspondents Association dinner in Washington D.C.
Congressional correspondent Chad Pergram and photojournalist John Wallace both received awards days after their colleagues Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova were killed covering the war in Ukraine.
Foreign correspondent Benjamin Hall was injured in the same attack but is reportedly recovering and has been moved out of Ukraine.
Pergram was honored with the prestigious Joan S. Barone Award for excellence in journalism. It was the second time he received the award. In 2006, he became the youngest recipient ever.
“In light of the tragedy involving my colleagues earlier this week, we come here as a profession confused, stunned and saddened. Tonight, for me and many of my colleagues at Fox is a somber occasion,” Pergram said. “I accept this honor on behalf of Pierre [Zakrzewski], Sasha [Kuvshynova], and Benjamin [Hall].
The Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association represents the interests of radio and television reporters covering the United States Congress.
John Wallace, who will be retiring later this year, was honored with the Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Reporting on Congress. Wallace used part of his acceptance speech to reflect on his colleagues who were killed this week and the atrocities committed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Â
“Let us all hope that this senseless slaughtering of the Ukrainian people stops and all of our fellow reporters, camera people, and producers, come home safely and the Ukrainian people can live in the peace that they earned,” Wallace said.
Wallace said the proudest achievement of his career was organizing a fundraiser that earned $60,000 for the family of his former crew partner, CNN cameraman Jerry Thompson, who died of cancer in 2011.
