John Roberts Calls Out Rick Scott Over His Tax Plan

Fox News’ John Roberts called out Sen. Rick Scott during a segment on “Fox News Sunday” when he tried to write off the controversies surrounding his ‘Rescue America’ plan as “Democrat talking points.”

Roberts brought up Scott’s 11-step plan calls for all Americans to pay income tax and contained this condition: “All federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.”

“So that would raise taxes on half of Americans and potentially sunset programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Why would you propose something like that in an election year?” Roberts asked.

With the Fox News host reading directly from Scott’s plan, the Florida lawmaker immediately opposed and insisted that the anchor was repeating “Democrat talking points,” provoking Roberts to push back.

“No, no, it’s in the plan! It’s in the plan!” Roberts exclaimed. “But here’s the thing about reality for a second,” Scott said. “But, Senator, hang on,” Roberts expressed. “It’s not a Democratic talking point! It’s in the plan!”

Scott continued by saying, “No one that I know of wants to sunset Medicare or Social Security. But what we’re doing is we don’t even talk about it.” Instead, he argued that his plan was regarding re-organizing such programs because “we ought to figure out how we preserve those programs.”
