Trey Yingst: Pierre Zakrzewski Helped Journalists With Their Reporting

Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst took some time to reflect on his fallen colleague, Pierre Zakrzewski who was killed in Ukraine when a vehicle he was occupying came under fire.

Also killed in the attack, Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, who was working for Fox News.

Yingst told The Hollywood Reporter that Zakrzewski was the best photojournalist that he had ever worked with. The pair worked together in Ukraine weeks before Zakrzewski was killed.

“He cared about the people. And he spent every waking hour doing what he could, not only getting the story out to the world but helping other journalists, freelancers, to have the resources they needed to continue reporting,” said Yingst.

Yingst said he attended Zakrzewski’s funeral last week in Dublin, Ireland calling the experience “an honor.”

“He (Zakrzewski) and I had something in common. And that is that we are consumed by this job,” Yingst said. “We love the responsibility that comes with going to dangerous places, in order to show the world what is happening there.”

Despite the imminent danger faced by journalists in Ukraine, Yingst feels that it’s important to cover the conflict up close and personal.

“I feel it is very important to be on the front lines of conflict, telling those stories, because if we can find humans who are, despite all odds living through this hell on earth, we can tell their stories to the world,” he added.
