Norah O’Donnell will remain at CBS News for the foreseeable future. According to Variety, the anchor and the network have struck a new contract to keep her at “CBS Evening News” beyond the 2024 election.
The report states that O’Donnell revealed her new deal Friday evening to some producers at CBS News’ Washington, D.C., facility while having a toast. Despite the information, a spokeswoman for the anchor declined to comment to Variety over the new agreement between the two parties.
Furthermore, the new contract might come as a surprise, considering the growing speculation that CBS News, under the guidance of co-president Neeraj Khemlani, might look to replace O’Donnell.
Variety includes that CBS News began reaching out to agents representing anchors and correspondents who worked for rival operations to check whether they might be interested in working for a daytime CBS News program, which suspected it to be the evening news.
O’Donnell is the second marquee name at the network to receive a new deal. In January, CBS News struck a contract extension with Gayle King, who had also been the subject of rumors regarding a possible departure.
