CNN’s streaming service is getting a boost from Roku. On Monday, the cable news channel announced that its users can download and view CNN+ through Roku.
According to Deadline, users can expect to be charged $6 a month; subscribers can get it for $3 if they sign up in the next two weeks.
CNN and Roku did not address the terms of their deal; revenue sharing is frequently the core cause of many disagreements over carriage. As with tech giants like Apple, Amazon, and Google, Roku takes a stake in each subscription facilitated via its channel store.
Despite reaching an agreement with Roku, CNN+ remains unavailable on other platforms like Google TV and Android TV; however, viewers can get it on Android phones and tablets.
There were reports that CNN+ was cutting jobs due to low subscription rates, but the network has denied those reports. In addition, CNN has pumped more than $120 million into this effort which includes the hiring of Chris Wallace and Kasie Hunt.
Network officials have not given any indication of subscriber numbers. The launch occurred shortly before parent WarnerMedia merged with Discovery and formally cut ties with its previous corporate parent, AT&T.
