Steve Cochran Taking Over As Morning Host at WLS

Last month, WLS decided to part ways with Bruce St. James as their morning drive host. The host lasted 16 months, and it seemed as though he didn’t click with the Chicago market after years in Arizona.

“Arizona, I’m coming home,” St. James wrote on Facebook regarding his departure from WLS. “Chicago is an amazing city, and I truly enjoy it here (even with the snow!), but for a variety of reasons, I need to be back in the Valley.”

Since then, Chicago radio veteran Ramblin’ Ray Stevens has been filling in until the station found a permanent replacement, and it appears they have found their new host.

Robert Feder reports that Steve Cochran, who’s been off the air for two and half years, will be taking over the hosting duties at WLS, being heard from 5:30 to 9 a.m. beginning next Monday.

Unlike St. James, Cochran is familiar with the Chicago market as he previously hosted mornings on Nexstar Media news/talk WGN 720-AM. However, he departed the company when his deal wasn’t extended in 2019 and has been off the air, hosting the twice-weekly podcast “Live From My Office.”
