This past Monday, the Fox Nation streaming platform hosted a televised debate between Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in a replica of the Senate Chamber hosted at the Kennedy Institute.
Instead, it’s an attempt to bring open, old-school debates back during a time when social media and cable news are kings. Bret Baier, the anchor of Fox News’ Special Report, moderated Monday’s event and spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the project.
“There is a hunger in the country to have congress or Washington in general to work, to agree on things we agree on, and disagree on things we don’t,” Baier said. “I wrote a book on Eisenhower, and that was his mantra: Get these things done first.”
Baier desires that viewers who decide to watch the debate between the two senators will be more informed, helped by the structure and his ability to moderate the discussion.
“These Senators are both known, and couldn’t be more ideologically different, but are both good at articulating their points of view,” Baier says. “So the challenge will be to get them to find some common ground, and I think they will.”
Although the debate aired on Fox Nation this past Monday, it will also run on Fox News on June 18 at 7 pm.
