Dan Mandis: Not Giving Real Opinions In ‘The Real World’

A recent study found more and more Americans are hesitant to share their true opinions to others for fear of being “cancelled”, calling it “self-silencing” and SuperTalk 99.7 WTN’s Dan Mandis said he’s also in that camp.

After mentioning he no longer “engages the crazies” after an undisclosed event, the Nashville’s Morning News host continued by saying “As a talk show host, obviously, I talk and give opinions for a living. But when I’m out in the real world? Unless I know that I’m around trusted friends that I know both agree with me and disagree with me, I’m not giving any opinion whatsoever. Because I don’t need the hassle. I don’t need the debate because I don’t want to to debate. And I understand why people feel like they just don’t wanna deal with people out there who are disagreeable.

Mandis added the extreme polarization of the nation’s political climate leads to a atmosphere where disagreement is no longer acceptable.

“Because when we disagree these days, for some, there is no such thing as a simple disagreement on what’s going on. It’s more of a ‘We’re going to destroy you’. In a lot of work places, you couldn’t even talk about Donald Trump. You couldn’t talk about the election. Because your co-workers would turn you in to human resources if they felt threatened or triggered. It doesn’t really surprise me that people are nervous or hesitant to give their real opinions.”
