BIA Advisory Services has unveiled its top 10 billing radio stations and radio ownership groups, and news station WTOP in Washington D.C. was again the top-billing station in 2021.
According to BIA Advisory Services, WTOP billed $70 million in 2021, slightly less than double second-place 102.7 KISS-FM in Los Angeles at $43 million. WTOP’s revenue increased 12% in 2021, and exceeded it’s pre-pandemic totals of 2019.
Three other news radio stations, all owned by Audacy, joined WTOP in the top 10:
-Newsradio 780 WBBM (Chicago) was the fourth highest billing station of the year at $34 million
-1010 WINS (New York) finished the year billing $31.6 million, good for 8th
-Newsradio 880 WCBS (New York) brought in $30.9 million, good for 10th
For entire radio entities, iHeartMedia led with more than $2.2 billion in revenue in 2021. Audacy was 2nd with $1.3 billion, with Cumulus rounding out the top three with $481 million in revenue. Hubbard, TelevisaUnivision, Beasley, Townsquare, Cox, Urban One, and Bonneville rounded out the top 10.
MoffettNathanson projects radio revenues in 2022 to increase by 3%.
