Gregg Giannotti: Twitter Truly Is ‘App For Sports’

There has been plenty of consternation surrounding the future of Twitter after its purchase by billionaire Elon Musk and his intentions to charge users a fee to be verified. WFAN morning host Gregg Giannotti said Tuesday that Twitter is truly the quintessential app for sports media and sports fans alike.

“For us, I remember talking to just a couple of music people this past weekend,” Giannotti said. “And they said ‘It’s interesting. All you sports guys use Twitter. You have a following on Twitter, but on Instagram you don’t have as much as a following, or on TikTok.’ Well that’s because Twitter really is the app for sports. Because it’s the live watching of sports, it’s the breaking news, it’s the reaction to it. It’s harder to do those things on Instagram or TikTok. So, for us, having the Twitter account has been a big part of what we do.”

“We’re not putting up selfie videos,” partner Boomer Esiason added. “I’m not showing you cleavage. You’re not doing that.”

“Showing cleavage?! What do you mean?!,” questioned Giannotti.

“You look at Instagram and all these different videos and TikTok and everything. This is body shaming era. You’re not gonna do that.”

The conversation began after a man with an apparent foot fetish had criticized Giannotti on Twitter. Giannotti mentioned earlier in the show that the television simulcast was utilizing a fill-in makeup artist, so he looked a little more pale than usual.
