On Thursday, Twitter suspended the accounts of several journalists on the grounds of violating the social media platform’s latest rule change about tracking private jets that were implemented on Wednesday.
However, on Saturday, CNN Media Reporter Oliver Darcy reported that Twitter owner Elon Musk restored the accounts of the several journalists he banned. Nonetheless, there’s a catch to their return.
“A notice on @donie’s account said he’d been suspended for violating Twitter rules,” Darcy said on Twitter. “It required him to delete a tweet before he’d be allowed to post, with option to appeal.”
The accounts belong to Ryan Mac of The New York Times, Donie O’Sullivan of CNN, Drew Harwell of The Washington Post, Matt Binder of Mashable, Micah Lee of The Intercept, Steve Herman of Voice of America and independent journalists Aaron Rupar, Keith Olbermann and Tony Webster were all suspended on Thursday, but are now active again.
After the development, Olbermann harshly criticized Musk as he went on his podcast Friday to call out the Twitter owner.
“What a freaking candy-ass, lying, hypocritical, self-contradicting, little paranoid snowflake Elon Musk is,” Olbermann said.
