Podcasting has democratized sports media content across multiple platforms. Now, active players have the chance to take advantage of a direct line to fans to tell their own stories. Few players are doing that better right now than the Kelce brothers according to Pat McAfee.
McAfee welcomed Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to his show on Monday. He told Kelce that players everywhere should be paying attention to what he and his brother Jason, an offensive lineman in Philadelphia, have created.
“I want players to be rich forever and be successful, and I think every single player’s story is worth money,” McAfee said. “I think the NFLPA needs to do a better job telling everybody that more in like workshops and things like that. But your and your brother’s show is like a top two, top three show in the world right now, dude.”
The show, New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce has experienced tremendous success. It routinely shows up on lists of the most downloaded sports podcasts on the internet. Pat McAfee says it isn’t hard to understand why.
“When you guys are chopping it up, it is so f***ing great. I’m enjoying the hell out of it.”
Kelce acknowledged that the show has been a lot of fun to put together. He says that recording sessions have become benchmarks of his week. That isn’t possible without The Pat McAfee Show.
“You guys paved the way though,” Kelce told McAfee. “You guys have been doing it the right way and gave us the confidence to want to tell our stories and eventually be able to bring in our friends.”
“Well, your show is much better than ours,” Pat McAfee fired back.
