Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin was removed from NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage after a complaint from a hotel employee was lodged with the network. 94WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi wondered if it’s possible to say something offensive enough to get you suspended in less than a minute.
“He originally said he had not met any woman,” Cataldi said of Irvin. “Now, that could have been a cover story, or he could have been bombed out of his mind. What’s more likely? Could you be so drunk that you do not remember meeting a mysterious woman in the lobby? Here’s the real question: What can you say in one minute of time that would be so horrific you are sent home?
“What could he say? I don’t want you to speculate, but could you say something that bad in one minute? I’m gonna take a wild guess that he propositioned her? And that’s it. Isn’t it possible that the lobby had women who were ‘business people’ there, and maybe he misconstrued her as somebody who is offering her wares for pricing?”
Co-hosts Al Morganti and Rhea Hughes agreed that it would be very easy to say something offensive in a less than one minute interaction.
It appeared that Cataldi was defending Irvin, but he was adamant that was not the case.
“I am not defending that jackass Michael Irvin, but now a days, you never know how heinous the act really was,” the outgoing morning host said.
The comments from Cataldi come after he banned Irvin from appearing on his show in November, calling the NFL Network analyst “a blithering idiot” after he proclaimed the Cowboys were the team to beat after Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 40-3.
“Guy’s a moron,” Cataldi said of Irvin. “After calling the Eagles a dynasty in the offseason, he has changed his mind now. And guess who the best team is to him? You’re a moron, Michael Irvin! So I hereby decree that Michael Irvin is banned from the WIP Morning Show.”
