According to the Wall Street Journal, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, the widow of the late radio icon Rush Limbaugh, has sold their luxurious Palm Beach mansion for a record-breaking $155 million after quietly listing it last year. Rush purchased the waterfront property in 1998 for $3.9 million. Rush expanded the property into a sprawling 2.7-acre estate, which includes a private beach, a pool, and a putting green. He also added a guest house modeled after the Presidential Suite of the Hotel George V in Paris. In addition, Rush constructed a studio on the property, allowing him to host his radio show from the comfort of his own home for more than two decades.
The mansion features a vast salon in the style of the Palace of Versailles, a two-story library inspired by the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and a principal guest suite modeled after the Presidential Suite of the Hotel George V in Paris. Rush largely decorated the estate, reflecting his admiration for the places he had seen. However, experts have suggested that the dated style of the mansion may have deterred some buyers from looking for a more modern home.
Rush Limbaugh, diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in February 2020, hosted his last radio show on February 2, 2021. The Presidential Medal of Freedom Winner died in February 2021 at 70.
Limbaugh was a radio icon garnering an audience of 15 million unique listeners weekly in 2019. He began broadcasting nationally in 1988 from WABC in New York but ultimately moved his show to Palm Beach after being dismayed by his reception in the big city. Limbaugh owned multiple properties, including a condominium on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
The sale of the Palm Beach mansion has set a record for the area, surpassing the previous biggest sale of $129.6 million in 2013 by hedge funder Ken Griffin. Kathryn Adams Limbaugh had listed the property for $150 million to $175 million.
