During the evidence-gathering phase of its defamation lawsuit against Fox News, Dominion Voting Systems uncovered text messages from Tucker Carlson that showed he privately despised Donald Trump.
However, Carlson recently aired a sit-down interview with the former President, where he spoke glowingly of the man and the job he did leading the country. NewsNation host Dan Abrams took issue with Carlson’s hypocrisy.
“What’s so stunning about this interview is it took place just weeks after Tucker’s private thoughts about the former President were exposed to the world in the form of text messages that he sent to colleagues that were made public by the ongoing defamation lawsuit against Fox News from Dominion Voting Systems, Abrams said. “It’s the dishonesty, not the soft-pedaling, that seems so striking.”
The Dan Abrams Live host then admitted that it’s possible Carlson has simply found a new perspective on the former President. While that’s a possibility, the NewsNation host said he should still at least point out the elephant in the room.
“Maybe he’s changed his mind. Fair enough. Then acknowledge that. Acknowledge it! Say ‘You know what? I thought Donald Trump was awful, but I was wrong’. Sure, it would have looked transparent, but at least it would have shown he recognized the absurd hypocrisy of what he did. He’s allowed to change his mind! But instead, he just pretends those texts and those sentiments don’t exist,” argued Abrams.
“Maybe his audience doesn’t know those texts exist, because Fox News has hardly reported on the Dominion case. But to everyone else, particularly those like me who long respected Tucker Carlson, this is a new level of phoniness.”
