ESPN Names SRX ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ Crew

ESPN and the Superstar Racing Experience, better known as SRX, have announced the broadcast crews for the network’s inaugural season televising the series.

After announcing that SRX would leave CBS and move to ESPN under a revival of the Thursday Night Thunder brand, questions abounded about whether the broadcast crew would remain the same.

Allen Bestwick will return to ESPN to call the SRX action during the six-race schedule. Bestwick served as the play-by-play broadcaster of the series during its two years on CBS. He previously worked at ESPN as a motorsports and college sports play-by-play announcer but was a causality of the network’s layoffs in 2017. He returned to ESPN to call the 2018 Indianapolis 500, before joining CBS in 2021.

He will be joined by a rotating analyst for each broadcast. Reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano will serve as the lead analyst for races on July 13th, August 3rd, and August 10th. INDYCAR driver Conor Daly will work as an analyst for races on July 27th and August 17th. Finally, NASCAR Hall of Famer and longtime NASCAR on FOX lead analyst Darrell Waltrip will join the booth for the series race on July 20th.

Additionally, longtime motorsports reporter Matt Yocum will work as the lead pit reporter for ESPN’s coverage of the series.

“We are thrilled to be on ESPN for season 3 of SRX and build off all of the success and growth we have had over the first two seasons,” said Pam Miller, SRX Executive Producer. “We are really excited about our broadcast team for 2023. We are thrilled to have Allen and Matt back with SRX, and couldn’t be more excited to have Joey Logano in the booth for three races this summer.

“Conor Daly will continue to provide the viewers unique insights given his experience racing across both NASCAR and IndyCar. Lastly, we are enthused to welcome Darrell Waltrip to the series and can’t wait for the fans to experience his passion, knowledge, and love for racing.”

ESPN will present coverage of each SRX Thursday Night Thunder race for six consecutive weeks at 9:00 PM ET. The season begins with a race at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut before races in Vermont, Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, and the season finale on Thursday, August 17th in Missouri.
