Laurence Holmes Wins Peter Lisagor Award For Sports Commentary

The Peter Lisagor Award is usually reserved for writers. That is why hearing his name called over the weekend was a pleasant surprise for 670 The Score host Laurence Holmes.

Holmes picked up the award for Best Sports Commentary. The award-winning segment was from 2022 and featured commentary on the meaning of Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball.

The Peter Lisagor Awards have been handed out by the Chicago Headline Club since 1977. They are named in honor of the former Washington bureau chief of The Chicago Daily News. Journalists covering Illinois and Northwest Indiana are eligible.

Laurence Holmes has had a busy couple of weeks of celebration. Last week, his boss Mitch Rosen popped into the studio to open an episode of Bernstein and Holmes by paying tribute to Holmes on what was the 25th anniversary of his start date with 670 The Score.
