Federal Judge Jonathan Goodman has ruled that news cameras, or any electronic devices, are prohibited from the courtroom as former President Donald Trump is arraigned on charges Tuesday.
The judge rejected a request from a coalition of media outlets for limited camera access from inside the courthouse and courtroom. A request for audio recordings to be made available after the proceedings had concluded was also denied.
Goodman claimed that “allowing photographs would undermine the massive security arrangements put in place.”
Outlets like CNN, NPR, and Telemundo had argued that due to the “historic nature” of the proceedings “non-disruptive” camera use should be allowed.
The ruling is the opposite of what was decided the first time Trump was arraigned this year in New York, where that federal judge allowed camera use at the beginning of the case, and reporters were allowed to report from an overflow room for on-air updates.
However, in Miami, reporters will be required to exit the courthouse to broadcast any details of the hearings.
