The rise of artificial intelligence has been a hot topic in recent weeks. One radio station in Portland announced plans to utilize the technology as an on-air personality. Erick Erickson questions why so many are so fearful of the growing technology.

During The Erick Erickson Show Monday, the Atlanta-based host said that AI fears aren’t based in reality.

“The people who believe AI is going to destroy the world tend to be people who are not grounded in anything. They’re scared of the technology,” said Erickson. “But all AI can do is do what we ourselves have put into it. And that’s the fundamental misunderstanding of the technology.”

He continued by claiming that the idea that AI will be the downfall of humanity is overblown.

“Artificial Intelligence is artificial. It is created by us. It’s not going to surpass us. There’s this grand fantasy that somehow we can develop computers that are thinkers, we can develop computers that think faster than us, but they’re not going to be able to outthink us because they’re going to think with the input we put into them. They’re not going to take on a life of their own.”
