CNN recently released an audio recording of former President Donald Trump discussing confidential military documents regarding Iran. On Tuesday, 1210 WPHT host Rich Zeoli expressed skepticism toward the media’s portrayal of the audio as a “smoking gun.”
“We knew there was an audio recording that was in the government’s indictment,” said Zeoli. “They said there was, so shocking that we heard the audio of this. Nobody doubted the audio. What they’re doubting is the document and whether that document exists.”
According to Zeoli, the key issue at hand is identifying the individual who leaked the document to CNN and determining how they acquired the information.
“If we had a media that cared about trying to figure that stuff out, as a man is fighting to prove his life, and really his innocence, you would think the media would care if this would impact and taint the jury, for example, or hurt his ability to get a fair trial.”
In June 2023, a federal grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump on 37 counts related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. This marks the first time a former U.S. president has been indicted in such a manner.
