The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most valuable franchises in sports, and it’s mind-boggling for Colin Cowherd to see that, despite going almost three decades without a Super Bowl appearance, the Cowboys brand continues to win.
On Tuesday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd said that success on the field for Dallas doesn’t directly impact the popularity and value of the franchise.
“So in the past 28 years, they have not been to an NFC championship. And I’d argue they’re more popular now than ever,” Cowherd said. “So the Cowboys brand is independent of their success. That’s crazy.”
Cowherd talked about owner Jerry Jones’s hand in growing and maintaining a brand image that resonates with fans.
“He he’s got a Dana White quality where he’s audacious. He’s fearless,” he said. “You can say what you want about Jerry, but the business man Jerry is really incredible.”
Much like how Cris Collinsworth described Cowboys mania to Dan Patrick on Monday, Cowherd on Tuesday said it’s incredible how even if Dallas is in a down year, and even though the Cowboys haven’t been to an NFC title game in 28 years, they’re still one of the most popular teams in the league.
“The Yankees were bad in the 80s. They couldn’t fill stadiums. Nobody went to Yankee games. And then didn’t they get sold?” Cowherd said. “Didn’t Steinbrenner buy him for like $10 million or something? I mean, the Packers when I was a kid, the Packers were not on television in the 80s.”
